Experiences
Setoda sits at the heart of the Shimanami Kaido, a cycling route that connects Hiroshima and Ehime across a series of island-hopping bridges. It is also one of Japan's most celebrated lemon-growing regions.
The town has been shaped by the sea, the land, and centuries of trade between islands. At Azumi Setoda, we offer experiences that connect you to the culture, nature, and people of these islands.
About the Islands of Shimanami
Each island in the Seto Inland Sea has its own culture and character. One is known for its lemon farms. Another is home to a shrine that has drawn pilgrims for centuries. On another, contemporary art quietly inhabits the landscape. Close to one another, yet each distinctly its own — and each with a way of life that continues today.
The Shimanami Kaido connects these islands along a single road. Cross each bridge, and the scenery shifts, the culture shifts, the people you meet shift. Travelling from island to island, you can take in the many faces of the Seto Inland Sea at your own pace.
